Under the Envato Elements License, if you want to use the same Item for separate projects, you will need to create a new license for each end-use. This ensures you comply with the license terms and supports the contributors.
How do I create a new license?
With the new Envato experience, we've introduced "one-click" downloads and licensing to make the process smoother, so you can start using your Items right away without any extra steps.
When you download, a license is automatically created with the date it was licensed, directly from the search page as well as the item page. This makes it easier to find later in your Downloads if you need it.
If you like to assign each license to a specific end-product or project name, you can still do that at download time by clicking the Manage button, where you can create a new project or choose from existing ones.
Managing and organizing your licenses
The automatic system handles licensing, but, as we alluded to earlier, you're still in control of organization — if that's your thing.
Each license covers a single use, so if you're using an asset across multiple projects, you'll need a separate license for each. You can create and label these anytime — helpful if you're working with multiple clients or want to track which assets went into which end product.
You now have more places to do this than before; where once you had one, now you have four:
- At download: Click Manage after downloading to create a license with a new or existing license name.
- From your Downloads page: Select View licenses, then Create new license.
- From the item page: Click Licenses, then Create new license. This access point is new.
- From a Workspace: Downloads are automatically licensed to your Workspace name. To use a different name, click Manage and create a new license.
You can organize licenses whenever you need to, without affecting your commercial rights. Nothing requires re-downloading.

Why is it important to create a new license for each project?
Not only are you legally required to relicense an item for each individual project you use it in, but doing so also ensures the contributor who created it will be paid accordingly for your usage.

What happens to items I downloaded before the new Envato experience?
Everything you've previously downloaded is already covered. The new system automatically generated licenses for all past downloads, so there's nothing you need to redo, re-download, or re-register. If you need to grab a license file for something you downloaded months ago, you can access it through your Downloads page, the item page, or your Workspace if you saved it there.
