Envato Elements collects tax on digital subscriptions in accordance with the local tax laws of countries where Envato is registered. Tax is calculated automatically based on your billing address at the time of purchase or subscription renewal.
This article explains how tax is applied, how to provide your tax ID if you are a registered business, and where to find your invoices.
Please note: For US-specific sales tax information, see our dedicated guide on US States Sales Tax Information for Envato Elements Subscribers.
How is tax applied to my Envato Elements subscription?
Tax is automatically calculated based on your billing address — and in some cases, your payment method — at the time of purchase or subscription renewal. The type of tax (such as VAT, GST, HST, QST, or PST) and the rate applied depend entirely on your country or region.
If you do not provide a valid tax ID at the time of purchase or subscription renewal, tax will be applied based on your billing address and the applicable local tax laws for your region. Please review the regional table below for specific tax types, rates, and business exemption conditions.
How do I add my tax ID to my Envato account?
You can add your business tax ID — such as a VAT number, GST number, ABN, or other applicable identifier — directly in your Envato account settings.
When you update your billing profile, the system validates the information:
- If the ID is valid: It will be saved and displayed on your future invoices. Where applicable, tax will not be charged on future renewals.
- If the ID is invalid or incorrectly formatted: It will not be accepted. Please check the correct format with your local tax authority and try again, or contact Envato support.
Important: Updates to your tax ID apply from your next subscription renewal invoice only. Tax ID changes cannot be applied retroactively to past invoices.
Where can I find my Envato Elements invoices?
Your invoices are available to view and download at any time from your account management page. Each breakdown includes your subscription fee, the exact tax type and rate applied, and your business tax ID if one has been provided.
For complete step-by-step instructions on accessing your financial documents, see: View & Download Invoices.

Frequently asked questions
Review common questions about global tax collection, business exemptions, and account billing modifications.
-
Why am I being charged VAT or GST on my Envato Elements subscription?
Envato Elements is required by local tax law to collect VAT, GST, or other applicable taxes in certain countries. The tax is calculated automatically based on your billing address. If your country is listed in the table above, tax will be applied unless you qualify for a business exemption and have provided a valid tax ID.
-
I am a VAT-registered business — how do I avoid being charged VAT?
Add your VAT number (or equivalent business tax ID) to your Envato Elements account settings. If the ID is valid, VAT will not be applied to your future subscription renewals. Note that the exemption applies from your next renewal — it cannot be applied retroactively to past invoices.
-
I was charged tax incorrectly — what should I do?
If you believe tax has been applied incorrectly to your subscription, contact the Envato support team with details of your account and the specific invoice in question.
-
My country is not in the table — does that mean I won't be charged tax?
If your country is not listed in the table, Envato does not currently collect tax for subscriptions in that country. This status may change over time as Envato's global tax registration obligations evolve.
