An Envato Elements license certificate is a PDF document that confirms you hold a valid commercial license for a specific item in a specific project. License certificates are issued by Envato and can be used as proof of licensing — for example, when resolving a YouTube Content ID claim or copyright notice.
How to download your Envato license certificate
There are two ways to access and download your license certificate:
Option 1 — From the item page
- Go to the item's page on Envato Elements.
- Click the Licenses button on the item page to view existing licenses for that item or create a new one.
- Click license you wish to download as a PDF file.
Option 2 — From your My Downloads page
- Click your name in the bottom-left corner of the Envato app.
- Select My Downloads from the menu.
- Find the item in your download history and click View licenses.
- A new window will appear with a Download license link — click it to download your license as a PDF file.
You can also create a new license for the item by clicking the + button.
What is an Item License Code?
An Item License Code is a unique numerical identifier assigned to each of your Envato Elements licenses. It is included in your license certificate PDF and identifies a specific licensed use of an item.
An Item License Code is not the same as a Purchase Code. Purchase Codes are issued on Envato Market when you purchase an item individually — they are not issued for items downloaded under an Envato Elements subscription.
No items in the Envato Elements library require a Purchase Code. This means you have complete access to all core features of any item you download from Envato Elements, without needing to enter any activation code.

Do I need a purchase code for Envato Elements items?
No. Envato Elements does not issue purchase codes. When you download an item — or create a new license for an item — you receive an ongoing commercial license for a specified project. No activation code or purchase code is required to use any item from Envato Elements.
Each license is valid from the date of download or license creation, and covers one specific project while your subscription is active. If your project is completed during your active subscription, the license remains valid for that project even after your subscription ends.

WordPress items: purchase code activation requests
Some WordPress themes and plugins downloaded from Envato Elements include features — such as automatic updates and access to the author's support portal — that are unlocked via a purchase code. These features are available only for items purchased on Envato Market and are not available for items downloaded under an Envato Elements subscription.
If a WordPress theme or plugin you downloaded from Envato Elements asks for a purchase code or activation code ignore the activation request and proceed to use the theme or plugin as normal. All core features of the item are available without entering a code. The activation prompt relates to premium features (automatic updates, author support) that require an Envato Market purchase.
Manually updating a WordPress item from Envato Elements: To update a WordPress theme or plugin downloaded from Envato Elements, download the latest version from Envato Elements and replace the existing files in the appropriate plugin and/or theme folders on your server.
