Envato gives you several ways to find exactly the asset you need. This article walks through how to search effectively — from basic keyword search to advanced operators and filters.
Please note: Depending on how you're browsing, you'll see one of two layouts. If you're signed in, content types appear in a sidebar on the left. If you're browsing without signing in, you'll see Envato Classic, where categories sit along the top menu and a few names are slightly different — for example, Videos appears as Stock Video, and Graphics Templates appears as Graphic Templates.
For a complete overview of all available asset types and categories, check out the Envato Stock Catalog.

Use Search Suggestions
Set the search selector to All Categories and start typing. Suggestions appear as you type, showing you exactly which category each option lives in.
For example, typing "logos" shows you Logos & Idents under Music and Logos under Graphics Templates. Select a suggestion and you'll land directly in the right category with filters already set.
Browse by Category
Items are grouped by type — presentation templates, fonts, stock video, royalty-free music, and more — then organized further by specific features, like PowerPoint templates versus Keynote templates. Use the sidebar (signed in) or the top navigation menu (Envato Classic) to browse.
A few category differences worth knowing:
- Graphics vs. Graphics Templates — Graphics are finished elements ready to drop into your project.
- Videos vs. Video Templates — Videos are ready-to-use footage. Video Templates need editing in software like After Effects or Premiere Pro.
- Stock Footage vs. Motion Graphics — both live under Video: Stock Footage is real live-action clips, Motion Graphics are animated design elements.
How Search Matching Works
Envato searches for what you mean, not just the exact words you type — searching "classy," for instance, can surface items described as "elegant." This gives you a wider range of options, but it also means an exact title might not always be the very first result.
Looking for one specific item or creator? Search by author name, or add filters to narrow things down. Still not quite right? Create what you need with our AI tools under Generate.
Working with Filters
Filters vary by content type: photos have people, orientation, color palette and mood. Videos add resolution and orientation. Video Templates add Applications supported, file types (.mogrt, .prproj and more) and orientation. Music has genre, mood, tempo and Content ID. Fonts have weight and spacing. One filter is available everywhere — Date added lets you narrow any search to items added in the past month, 6 months or year, whatever the content type you're browsing. Filters stay applied as you keep searching within a content type, but clear automatically when you move to a new category.
Use the Filters menu in the navigation bar to select multiple filters at once, or to clear them all.
Advanced Search Techniques
-
Search for a specific location
Use the predefined Location filter in Photos or Videos before searching, so results are guaranteed to be shot in that location rather than just resembling it. -
Search for an author
Type @ followed by a username to filter results to that author's portfolio. Combine it with keywords to explore their work on a specific topic.
Note: author search only works inside a specific category — it's not available from All Categories. -
Refine with + and −
Add + before a word to require it, or − to exclude it. For example: sunset at the beach +dog -
Find the right music track
Search by keyword (genre, mood, instrument, tempo, theme), or upload an audio file / paste a link to find tracks with a similar sound.
Note: Logos & Idents live as a filter within Royalty-Free Music, rather than as a separate category. -
Preview before you download
Video Templates can be previewed right from the search results page, and font item pages include an interactive tester — type your own text and see it rendered in the actual font. Open the item page for full details, including any author tutorials, to check the item fits your software and project. -
Search in another language
Choose one of our supported languages in Preferences and Envato will automatically translate your query. -
Explore by tag
Click any tag on an item page to see other items sharing that tag — a quick way to find more of a specific style or theme. -
Numbered pages vs. infinite scroll
Search results scroll infinitely by default. Prefer numbered pages? Switch it on in Preferences under Search results display.
FAQ
How do I filter results by software?
Most categories let you filter by supported application — for example, video templates can be filtered by After Effects, Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve. Availability varies by category.
For video templates you can go a step further. Open the Applications Supported filter and you'll find a nested Software Version option, so you can narrow results to templates saved in the exact version you're running. That way you can confirm a template will open on your setup before you download it, rather than finding out afterwards.
How do I preview a font before I download it?
Open any font item page and type your own text into the preview tester — it's rendered in the actual font, so you can see how it handles your real wording rather than sample text. You don't need a subscription to try it. Subscribers get a richer font experience in the Envato app, including previewing different weights and adjusting the size.
Can I search music by uploading a song?
Yes — upload a file or paste a link into the music search bar to find tracks with a similar sound.
How do I find items by a specific creator?
Use @username inside a category (not from All Categories) to browse their portfolio, and add keywords to narrow it down further.
How do I tell which items are new on Envato?
Items added to the Envato library in the last two weeks are marked with a Just added label on search results, so you can spot fresh content as you browse.
Where the label appears depends on the item type:
- Photos, videos and other visual items: the label sits in the top-right corner of the tile and disappears when you hover, so it never covers the preview.
- Audio items: the label sits next to the track title.
Looking further back than two weeks? Use the Date added filter to narrow any search to items added in the past month, 6 months or year. It's available on every item type, so it works whether you're browsing photos, music, fonts, 3D or anything else.
Hint: New items are added to the library daily, so it is worth re-running a favourite search from time to time to see what has landed.
Can I search Envato from an AI assistant like ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini?
Yes. Envato has an MCP server that connects AI assistants to the Envato library, so you can search for items without leaving your AI chat. The assistant uses Envato’s own categories and filters, so you can ask for things like “blues background music for a YouTube intro” and get matching items back. Each result includes a link to the item page, where you can review, license and download it.
To set it up, add a custom MCP connector in your AI assistant’s settings. Use any name you like (for example, “Envato Creative Companion”) and this URL: https://mcp.envato.com/mcp. Menu names vary between assistants, so ask your assistant how to add a custom MCP.
The MCP Server is an "Elements AI Tool" which, per the User Terms are: AI-powered tools and features that assist users in navigating, discovering, or interacting with content, including search tools, chatbots, and similar functionality.
The MCP server is an early proof-of-concept, and it’s for searching only. You’ll still license and download items on Envato, MCP does not allow downloading assets directly into AI tools.
