Under the Envato Elements License, if you want to use the same Item for separate projects, you will need to create a new license for each end-use. This ensures you comply with the license terms and supports the contributors.
How do I create a new license?
With the new Envato experience, we've introduced "one-click" downloads and licensing to make the process smoother, so you can start using your Items right away without any extra steps.
When you download, a license is automatically created with the date it was licensed, directly from the search page as well as the item page. This makes it easier to find later in your Downloads if you need it.
If you like to assign each license to a specific end-product or project name, you can still do that at download time by clicking the Manage button, where you can create a new project or choose from existing ones.
Managing and organizing your licenses
The automatic system handles licensing, but, as we alluded to earlier, you're still in control of organization — if that's your thing.
Each license covers a single use, so if you're using an asset across multiple projects, you'll need a separate license for each. You can create and label these anytime — helpful if you're working with multiple clients or want to track which assets went into which end product.
You now have more places to do this than before; where once you had one, now you have four:
- At download: Click Manage after downloading to create a license with a new or existing license name.
- From your Downloads page: Select View licenses, then Create new license.
- From the item page: Click Licenses, then Create new license. This access point is new.
- From a Workspace: Downloads are automatically licensed to your Workspace name. To use a different name, click Manage and create a new license.
You can organize licenses whenever you need to, without affecting your commercial rights. Nothing requires re-downloading.
Choose how you license downloads
You now have more control over how you license your downloads. Pick the option that best fits your workflow and change it any time:
- Never ask: Items are automatically licensed each time you download, so you can move fast on high-volume projects without extra steps.
- Always ask: Choose which license name to assign on every download, so you can keep work clearly organised by client or project.
- Remember last choice: Your last selected license name is applied to your next download, helping keeping you in that project flow.
Search previously created license names
Reusing license names just got easier. You can now search across all your names and assign them at download. Not in the mood to name things? No stress, you’re still fully licensed either way.

Why is it important to create a new license for each project?
Not only are you legally required to relicense an item for each individual project you use it in, but doing so also ensures the contributor who created it will be paid accordingly for your usage.

What happens to my existing licenses for items I’ve already downloaded?
All your past valid downloads are already covered for their original intended use. Our system has automatically generated a valid commercial license for every item you’ve downloaded in the past, so there’s no need to re-download or manually register those specific projects. Keep in mind that each license covers a single specific project. If you want to use one of these items for a new or different project, you will need to create a new license for that specific end-use. You can easily generate new licenses or access your existing license certificates through your Downloads page, the item page, or your Workspace (unless the Item has been removed from Elements, or was used as part of previous "Trial use" options).
