Please note that since August 17 2026, we are changing the way AI generations are calculated on Envato, and moving to a credit structure where some AI actions use more credits than others. Learn more about these changes and what they mean for your subscription: Updates to Envato’s AI Credit Structure.
AI Credits are used each time you click a Generate ✨ button in any Envato Gen AI tool. Not all AI tools cost the same; the credit count differs depending on which AI tool you are using, what type of content you are creating, or which settings and inputs you use.
How many AI credits are included in each Envato plan?
Your monthly allowance of AI credits is determined by your specific subscription tier. The table below outlines the limits for each available plan:
| Plan | AI Credits per Month |
|---|---|
| Core | 20 AI Credits |
| Plus | 200 AI Credits |
| Ultimate | 500, 1000 or 2000 AI credits |
What actions use an AI credit?
Any action that triggers a Generate ✨ button (or a variation of it, such as Generate Style ✨ or Generate Changes ✨) uses one or more AI credits. We will show you clearly how many credits each type of generation will cost, before you press the button.
The amount of credits an action will use will be displayed on the Generate✨ button before you complete the action, for example:
Basic actions (like image generation, image editing, or voice generation) use fewer credits, while more complex actions (like generating or upscaling video) use more.
What actions do NOT use any credits?
The following setup and editing actions do not use up a credit balance because they do not require clicking a Generate ✨ button:
- Uploading a reference image.
- Enhancing or refining a prompt.
- Cropping an image.
- Previewing or reviewing previous outputs.
How do credit limits reset?
AI Credits reset automatically every month, based on your subscription start date — not on a fixed calendar date. For example, if you subscribed on 18 January, your generation limit resets on the 18th of every subsequent month. This applies to both monthly and annual billing plans.
Please note: Unused AI credits do not roll over. Any unused credits at the end of your monthly period are not carried forward to the next month.
What happens if I run out of credits?
If you reach your monthly credit limit, you can select one of two pathways to manage your allowance:
- Upgrade your plan — You can upgrade to Plus or Ultimate at any time from your account settings to immediately access more credits.
- Wait for your monthly reset — Your AI credit balance will automatically refresh on your next reset date.
What happens if a generation fails?
If a generation attempt fails — for example, due to a technical error or because the content was blocked for moderation reasons — the relevant credit/s will not be deducted from your balance. After a failed AI generation, the appropriate credits should be automatically restored to your account within 2 hours.
If your credit balance has not been restored after 2 hours, please reach out to our Support Team.
What is Envato Generation History?
Generation History is a feature that stores all of your past AI creations in one place. It allows you to revisit, refine, download, or save any previous AI output to a Workspace.
Generation History covers all AI tool outputs — images, videos, music, voiceovers, sound effects, and graphics — generated during your active subscription.
A note on future changes: As our AI tools and technologies evolve, we may update our AI credit structure from time to time. You can always refer to this Help Centre article for the latest guidance, and we'll show you exactly how many credits an action will use before you generate.
Frequently asked questions
-
Does I use credits if I edit an AI-generated image?
Yes. Editing an AI-generated image using an AI tool (such as replacing a background or modifying an object) will use AI credit/s.
-
Do AI credits count across all AI tools or separately per tool?
AI credits are counted from a single shared monthly balance across all Envato AI tools. There is no separate credit allowance per tool — all tools draw from the same pool.
-
Can I track how many AI credits I have left?
Yes. Your remaining credit balance is displayed on your Account page and can also be tracked within each AI tool interface while you are actively working.
-
How many credits does each AI action use?
Credit usage varies depending on the type of generation and the complexity of the task, but you'll always see the exact amount of credits you need before generating.
Action Credits Image generation and editing 1 Graphics generation and editing 1 Voice generation 1 Sound Effects generation 1 Music generation 1 Video generation and editing 2+ Some actions may use additional credits depending on factors such as the number of variations you generate, duration, or where multiple AI actions are brought together into a single workflow.
Choosing a video resolution
When you generate a video, you can choose the resolution before you press Generate: Low (480p+), Standard (720p+) or High (1080p+). These are minimum resolutions, so your finished video may come back higher than the option you picked.
The number of credits an action uses changes with the resolution and the duration you choose, and the total is always shown on the Generate ✨ button before you commit. For a 4-second video, that's 2 credits for Low, 5 credits for Standard and 9 credits for High.
Low is a lower-credit way to try out an idea, while High gives you more detail once you're happy with the direction.
Burst Mode
When Burst Mode is switched on in the AI image tools, a single generation returns six variations rather than one, and a Burst edit returns three results. Because you are exploring several directions in one go, Burst Mode is a lower-credit way to work through early ideas than generating them one at a time.
The credit cost of a Burst generation or a Burst edit is always shown on the Generate ✨ before you commit, in the same way as every other AI action.
