From April 2021, Envato Elements will begin to charge Goods and Services Tax (GST) on subscriptions for customers based in Singapore.
Singaporean GST applies to non-resident operators of digital marketplaces such as Envato Elements and we are therefore required to impose GST on subscription services provided to customers resident in Singapore.
FAQ for Buyers
What rate of tax is applied?
The rate of tax applied to your purchase will be a flat rate of 7%.
We note that the Singapore Government has advised that the rate will increase to 9% sometime between 2021 and 2025. We will provide updated communications once a definitive date has been reached.
What if I am registered for GST in Singapore?
GST is only applied to customers that do not have a GST registration. If you are a business and registered for GST in Singapore, please update your billing details to include your GST registration number.
Envato will be collecting GST on sales completed by customers with a Singaporean billing or payment address unless and until this information is received.
Where to find invoices?
A record of the GST that has been collected can be found on your monthly or annual invoices or can be viewed on your “My Account” page after 8th April 2021.
It is a serious offence to provide incorrect or false information to overseas providers to avoid paying GST on digital services (e.g. providing a false address to misrepresent yourself as residing outside Singapore or using a business’ GST registration number). Upon conviction, offenders may face penalties of up to 3 times the amount of tax chargeable and a jail term of up to 7 years.
